Monterey Park Performing Arts Center is a project for designing a complex that includes a performing arts center with more than 3,000 seats, which will be the second largest size around Los Angeles, five-star hotel, office buildings, and live-work condominiums. First-rated design was required to hold international events such as Emmy Award. Also the maximum use of geographical condition, 8 miles away from Los Angeles, and at the same time providing a complex where citizens of Monterey Park City could easily visit and enjoy was to be considered. The monolithic sense integrated with a hill was emphasized to be read as a landmark of the city by making the best use of a site condition located at the top of hill. Furthermore a soft curve was added as if the curve followed the baton’s trajectory of a conductor. This implied that this place would function as a performing arts center.
