Overview

Korea Polar Research Institute has a symbolic meaning representing the nation as an institute to research the polar, which is a reserve of future resources and at the same time the earth's history museum. This project named as 'The 3rd Pole' is created as a place to remind of the importance of polar by newly containing environment of the South and North Pole in Songdo and planned to lead globalism as a center of network connecting the world and a hub of high-tech science. The symbolism is considered by designing it to be mass, which reminds of the polar iceberg. Its open space is planned to be placed in the front of the site area in order to secure its façade and easily accessed by the residents and the site area is designed to be eco-friendly space with a motif of the polar natural environment.
