Busan Citizen Park, the site for Busan International Arts Center, has bitter wounds of history. Before being returned to South Korea in 2010, after the 50 year possession under the US Army ever since the Korean War, it was also used as a racecourse during the colonial period. Given the historical context, that traumatic memory lies underneath our site design that simbolize ‘grapping-the-land’. The wavelike factors create the dominating flows all over the site and naturally become parts of landscape in the park. In the center of the park, the vineyard type auditorium that can accommodate approximately 2,000 guests is located, completing the form of itself as a metaphor of a musical instrument. The shape of the building motivated from a floating boat represents the symbolic image of Busan, the marine city.
