[Winner] Feasibility Study and Master Plan Development for the New Smart Chonnam National University Hospital
Competition May. 20. 2026
The project proposes a comprehensive master plan for the future-oriented smart hospital at Chonnam National University Hospital, integrating the hospital’s fragmented campus—formed through repeated extensions over time—into a cohesive healthcare environment. Rather than redefining the site with a rigid new order, the plan embraces the existing misaligned axes and irregular building arrangements as part of the site’s identity, establishing a new spatial framework where the existing and new architectures intersect.
Centered around the new hospital building, the “Hospital Street” is expanded into a floating circulation system that three-dimensionally connects all major clinical facilities, creating a more intuitive and efficient medical environment for patients and staff alike. In addition, layered landscape spaces and open public areas surrounding the hospital museum reinterpret the 110-year history of the institution as part of a healing campus where healthcare, history, and everyday urban life coexist.
